Sake Dog

August 31, 2010

Ahhh, hello blog readers.  Instead of blogging, I have been busy taking photos for $, traveling for fun, and gearing up for some big(ish) changes for AKeiganPhoto.  I don’t feel right when I’m away from the blog for so long.  :(  I must say, though – being away from Facebook & Twitter has been amazing.  For several weeks or more, I’ve only been on long enough to respond to messages.  It’s insane how much time that has given me for other things!  I’m going to ride this disinterest in social media for as long as I can….so call, email, or see me in person for some real communication!  :)

Meet Sake:  a session for which I can thank my beloved Moo cards .  How so?  The co-owner of this GORGEOUS & SUPER SWEET dog saw my card at M-Street Coffee & thought I “looked like a nice girl.”  He doesn’t have a computer so he couldn’t even see what kind of photos I take!  No computer + $$ to spend on professional dog portraits = extremely wary Alej.  So wary that I took a weapon to our consultation at the home he was house-sitting. (Seriously.  I really did –  in my purse.  The whole thing just seemed weird to me!)  Luckily, the situation made perfect sense after meeting the guy (who happens to be totally nice & funny & interesting) and I felt 100% comfortable attending the session unarmed.  Ok, that sounds hilarious.

I love animals & taking photos of them, but this was my first commissioned project.  I LOVED it!  Working with a dog is kind of like working with a small child in that they don’t really take direction well & do respond to treats & manipulation.  I would love to do this sort of thing again.

This particular session has already resulted in more photo work….so now I feel really bad that I thought I may have to kill the guy.  :p

The Beach & A Buncha Hams

One (or maybe even #1) of my favorite beaches, Oxnard Shores – gorgeous, long, flat, empty, and free from stubble:

Troublemaker & his blankie:

Scaredy-Dog

One of the dogs (Darwin) at my dad’s house in TN was totally terrified of J & I on this trip!  It was so weird….maybe because my hair is dark now so he didn’t recognize me?  I thought giving him a bone would befriend him to me, but he nervously grabbed it & immediately sprinted away.  So odd! His sister Daisy was friendly as ever.  Great Pyrenees are such cuddly, lovable dogs.

New Lens/Fat Cat

June 14, 2010

I feel really bad posting this picture because it’s so unflattering, but since he’s not human (or at least not interested in looking at my blog), I have to go ahead.  This cracks me up — he is not THAT fat.  And he typically has the posture of a well-bred, confident feline.

Photo taken with my new lens, my first “L.”  Not the greatest photo it will take – this was at ISO 3200 inside my house, but still….I am extremely happy with it!  I’ll post some pics with good lighting & a more flattering pose another day.

He looks kind of South Parkish….
